Seven sheets lead from what the pattern costs to what it spares the person, when it began, whose emotional state they were managing when they learned it, the conditions under which it intensifies or quietens, the version shown to others and what would have to be true for it to be no longer needed. Clinician notes track avoidance, the material arriving in the following session and the pattern's role in the transference. The guidance also names a known risk, namely that a patient may use the idea of a symptom's function as a reason to keep it.
