The holidays are hard less because there is too much to do than because they return a person to a room where a role was assigned long ago and everyone still knows the lines. The twenty sheets follow that arc in four movements (before, the role, the room, after) so that one patient can use them across six or eight weeks. There are no coping tips here, and the sheets left blank are a map of what could not yet be looked at.

Holiday gatherings tend to be difficult less because of the workload than because they return a person to a family role assigned long ago. This seasonal workbook for adult clients follows that premise through twenty worksheets in four movements: before, the role, in the room and after. The sheets explore anticipation and rehearsal, the function each person holds in the family, the age the person feels by the second day, recurring alliances and triggering phrases, what is never discussed, the account given afterwards and the distance between intentions and outcomes. The guidance recommends giving the movements in sequence over six to eight weeks, from late November to the first session of January. It includes cautions for patients in acute family conflict or with a history of abuse, and for those whose family is absent.
