The literature on adult ADHD is predominantly neurobiological and cognitive-behavioral, and this compendium does not contest it. It addresses the space that literature leaves uncovered, reading adult ADHD as subjective and relational experience in which a constitutional vulnerability of attention is lived, defended and given meaning within a personal history. The position is integrative rather than oppositional. The text examines the psychic function of attention, its developmental origins in mirroring, regulation and containment, the clinical picture as it appears in session, and differential diagnosis from a psychodynamic standpoint. It gives particular weight to transference and countertransference, to adapting setting and technique without abandoning the frame, to coping beyond practical strategies and to the meaning of medication in the therapy. It closes with composite vignettes, common errors, an essential bibliography and a reading grid for the assessment interview.
